You mean RDJ, the actor pretty much everyone on Earth said was the single most appropriate actor to play Tony Stark, who pretty much lived every second of the role, who was borderline method acting for half the film, and who made an entire world that barely gave a fuck about Iron Man wind up seeing him as one of their favorite characters ever?

Yes, I'd say RDJ cared about the character.

Well ok, there's one. Oh, I'm pretty sure Tom Holland was a fan and cares about Spider Man! So there's 2!

Keep in mind, I'm not saying an actor needs to be a huge fan of the character and who they were before they took the movie (that's not what "caring" means). I'm talking about the difference between taking the character you are given and really trying to get into that character's head, make them seem like a real, vital person, and make people care about that character... versus showing up, reading the lines you're given, doing what the director tells you, and then clocking out completely because you don't care. One of those mindsets tends to give you great films. The other gives you the Star Wars prequels.

So you're saying that only method actors can give good performances? I bet there's plenty of examples out there of someone who went in, read the lines, did what the director said and it was considered a good performance.
