Well that connotation is not intended. It's nature, tradition, etc. forming these dynamics.

It's not wising up, then just ran out of time to get the alpha (if you haven't by 30, realistically it's not gonna happen; physical traits only worsen with age). If there was magically an alpha who was also financially stable and also wanted to start a family and was also actually interested in those women, they would be the pick.

But it's an unlikely scenario, so the beta is the fallback for stability, when approching "settle down" age.

But it still sucks for the beta. He basically workhorsed his youth away just to get middle-aged women who are way more experienced than him and as such have high expectations he may not be able to meet. Their social lifestyles were so different that finding a real common ground would probably be a struggle. Feels bad man.
