Edelgard has 105% growth rate on Lysethia. Add that to his great flexibility, crest, Relic (Granted you can give it Lysethia or whatever you want to do.), his solid personal skill (+2 damage while in a battalion and his easy availability (Charm is easy to get, Reason is good on Byleth.
