It's interesting to me that, after Cutie Honey's limited exposure in the west failed, the "niche" that Cutie Honey filled (action-packed magical girl show primarily marketed to male viewers) never got another chance in the west until much later when Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha came over... and that one failed in the west too.
