I would say playing KTANE from the perspective of the instruction reader is still very much within the realm of a video game, the game's functions still only exist within a video display. A video game doesn't cease to be a video game because I closed my eyes, for instance, the components are still there. It is an interesting way in which to play a video game, but there is still clear interaction with the idea of a video game. True, I guess you could also compare it to say using a walkthrough or something.
