You roll up a level 1 character with a bit of help from an experienced player and learn little by little. It's just dice throws and reading a few pages. The DM is the one who has to actually know the rules. I mean, I just said that when I tried to play I was the DM and I tried to learn the rules to their full extent, and that didn't actually work with a party of all new players, like we were all new to the format of the game. Like I said, you're gatekeeping in the worst of ways, and that's honestly fine too, I'll look to you as an example of the worst way to represent the fan base, but I definitely want to point out that that's the worst way to represent the game for future players.
