His biggest legislative achievements: the stimulus bill and PPACA, were both designed with appeasing Republicans and relevant industries in mind(in fact, PPACA was basically written by the health insurance industry lobbyists like Tom Daschle, which then opposed it anyway), with the goal of constructing uncontroversial bills which would receive a lot of broad support: both in Congress and from the public. This led to weak bills that nobody liked, and of course the Republicans hated them both: the stimulus bill got all of three Republican votes, and PPACA got none. Obama also ramped up deportations and gave both ICE and CBP more power and money to go after undocumented people, in an attempt to appease anti-immigration Republicans and demonstrate that he was a "law-and-order" type who could be trusted. <cite>ElatedVenusaur posted [p:930265441] in Obummer wa...
