I would say in a way he is but not because of the way you are probably thinking.

First he was a democrat so obviously conservatives wanted one of their own to win the next election but the biggest thing that probably fired up the other side is he was BLACK and had a name that sounds funny to ignorant people.

So yeah at no fault of his own his blackness and funny " s*** hole country " sounding name probably fired up all of the racists and bigots to really come out and vote....then along comes Trump who obviously appeals to a group of people that no other politicians ever cared about pandering to (or at least no so obviously) and yeah, Trump wins. He said all of the things they wanted to hear.
