I dunno if there's a good widely used memtest for a hard drive I usually just use the onboard one you tend to get to by mashing f12 or whatever on startup but yeah not every PC has this. You can also run chkdsk which will telegraph a failing hard drive and fix it a bit byThe fact he isn't artifacting or blue screening suggests to me he isn't overheating or having a gpu issue.
