God forbid people be able to exercise their fundamental rights without exposing themselves to a deadly disease

How would you feel about entering everyone who is registered to vote into a lottery, and then 10% of registered voters are randomly selected as being eligible to vote in each election. The 10% can then go to the polls if they wish, which will not have long lines to deal with because far fewer people are going.

Statistically a 10% sample of 200 million people is enough to achieve the same result as having everyone vote in basically all elections.*

Unless there are systemic effects. For instance, perhaps turnout is higher among eligible voters because people in the 10% feel a duty to vote since they are representing 9 other people, and because voting is easier without long lines. Bernie might benefit!
