This. A guy at my father's place of employment came down with it with a sudden shortness of breath and dropped dead 12 hours later.

Some people that have it don't even know they have it and end up just fine. This bug is such a mindfuck because it's terribly inconsistent with how symptoms present.

There was a story on CNN or somewhere (I think it's on more than CNN) about this pastor from NC that went to New Orleans around Mardi Gras in order to bring people to God. He was in good health when he left New Orleans but, half to three quarters of the way to NC, he complained of shortness of breath and other symptoms of Covid-19. He died from Covid-19 in a hospital in NC but Covid-19 only took 24 Hours to manifest itself in his case (why is an excellent question).
