The color box is just supposed to represent the color of the hand, because modern sets just show the hand in the proper color. Same thing might happen to you with some gendered emojis, it might show the male or female symbol next to your emoji to represent that it's actually different. The hand is the same colour as the box. I have been seeing a lot of weird messages that are just a shrug followed by a fender symbol, still trying to figure that out. And I think Firefox updated last night, so I doubt it has anything to do with outdated stuff.
