Yeah, obviously I can buy it w/o financing, and I totally would go that route if I did buy it.
But for a lot of people they see the low dollar amount of the monthly plan and think it's more affordable or cheaper. Phone carriers do it and make bank, now MS is joining in. Can't really blame them, it's easy money.
Just pointing out that w/ the monthly payment method, the series X is even more of a ripoff compared to series S.

And I didn't bother w/ interest b/c I don't know what a fair "prevailing interest rate" would be in this case.
And the Fed's kept rates overall so damn low that interest is really freaking cheap, and seeing extremely low or even 0% financing offers for at least the first year or two of a loan is far from unheard of. So it's not even that unreasonable to just assume this financing is at 0% interest or close to it.
