The Series S is $299. They're gonna try to make people pay $200 to be able to use physical games with their console!
I know the X has higher specs too, but I don't care. That was their dumb ass decision to limit physical game customers to the high end model, and then to spec it out so much that it apparently increased the price 67%, not my problem.
God, next gen is going to suck so bad...

It is smart of them to try and sucker people into monthly plans like phone carriers do. Doing the math, it looks like the Series S plan makes the game pass like $12.50/month and the Series X makes it $14.20/month.
Yes, that's if there was no interest, but it's still fascinating that those opting for the plan on the X means you're effectively paying more for the game pass. Not that I expect anyone buying this crap to even think or care to figure this out.

If you look at digital game prices vs. physical, you'd see that the 200 dollar difference will be made up quick. I still think the difference should've been smaller, but the physical is definitely worth it for the specs difference and the physical games being much cheaper.

you know you can just...buy the console without financing through them, right?

like that's still an option.

Yeah, obviously I can buy it w/o financing, and I totally would go that route if I did buy it.
But for a lot of people they see the low dollar amount of the monthly plan and think it's more affordable or cheaper. Phone carriers do it and make bank, now MS is joining in. Can't really blame them, it's easy money.
Just pointing out that w/ the monthly payment method, the series X is even more of a ripoff compared to series S.

And I didn't bother w/ interest b/c I don't know what a fair "prevailing interest rate" would be in this case.
And the Fed's kept rates overall so damn low that interest is really freaking cheap, and seeing extremely low or even 0% financing offers for at least the first year or two of a loan is far from unheard of. So it's not even that unreasonable to just assume this financing is at 0% interest or close to it.

all this is, is a continuation of what they did this gen, and probably not very many people used the financing then, either, so i don't really see this as them trying to "sucker" people.

even then, if you were to just have gamepass ultimate for as long as you would on this program, you'd actually be saving around $70 this way, than if you just bought the console and two years of GPU.

typically you end up spending more, way more, on these kinds of deals, but that's not really the case this time. with the series s, anyways. with the x you're paying $20 more.

That or it's a smart choice to sell someone who only wants digital something for almost half the price of it's daddy. Also you should care that the specs are less in the smaller model because that also helps keep costs down. With all that said I'll be buying a disc based PS5 so this means nothing to me save for the disc based PS5 will probably cost 450 too.

Just wait for the Xbox Infinity and PS6 releases. They will be backwards compatible with the Xbox Series X and PS5.
