The story touches on some darker subjects, such as the death of the narrator's mother and suppressed money issues resulting in the sale of the beloved family dogs, despite the narrator's claims he hears otherwise. It's an emotional piece, pronounced pitch-perfectly with a growing sense of mystery and terror culminating in a crashing conclusion where Neil loses his sanity among dissonant beats, his voice coming to an ear-bleeding shrill, until nothing remains.
