The Secret World (Video Game) (17 points) Nominated by: Pirateking2000 (0/5 remaining) https://imgur.com/a/Ay9wm11 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liEHA569CfE Importance: 6 Fear: 6 Snake: 5 Taking place on the fringes of society, where the realities of the normal and the paranormal collide, you play as an agent of one of three factions that aim to either stop horrific occurrences or use the invasion of Lovecrafitan monsters to their advantage. The game is an MMO, though one with free-flowing combat that incorporates a mix of fantasy and modern weapons, from magic swords to standard assault rifles. It is a hugely in-depth and complex system that's hard to describe without actually having played it. Being an MMO, I feel like the environmental detailing isn't as strong as it should be in a game with this amount world-building and lore, which incorporates all sorts of horror & mythical influence from ancient classics to modern pop culture such as Stephen King and the ever-present Lovecraft of course. In the past, I've often found it difficult to truly find MMOs scary but Secret World does knock it out of the park with its monster design and its deepest antagonistic force, the Filth. It's an interestingly rich game that I actually assumed to be a failure this entire time, as I never hear anyone talk about it, but it has a huge extended universe that includes the popular first-person horror game The Park with another one on the way, along with a possible TV series in the works. It has since been relaunched as Secret World Legends with all new storylines. I don't like MMOs that much but I definitely appreciate the passion that went into creating this game and universe. --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
