Honestly I facepalm harder whenever Kiryu or one of the series protagonists throws away a fully loaded gun close to the enemy's proximity and somebody close or dear to theirs ends up getting shot or worse flat out killed. So rubber bullets while such an asspull of a plot element, at least saved ~~Akiyama.~~ I'm in full suspension of disbelief mode at this point with the series so I'm ok with it as long as Kiryu does throw away a loaded gun next to an enemy again.
