And women are in fact often gatekept from hobbyist communuties that are predominately male; paranoid men often purity test a woman's passion for and knowledge about the hobby in order to determine if she's a "real fan" or if she's just looking for male attention. And then you have the desperate men who swarm the woman with romantic propositions, even though she's just trying to focus on the hobby.
