The answer is in the middle. Personally, I don't see hobbies as a social activity, I will do them regardless of whether anyone likes me. (they don't) If she looked at them that way, it's true that no social dynamics could keep her out of the game.

But she probably does see hobbies as a social activity. And women are in fact often gatekept from hobbyist communuties that are predominately male; paranoid men often purity test a woman's passion for and knowledge about the hobby in order to determine if she's a "real fan" or if she's just looking for male attention. And then you have the desperate men who swarm the woman with romantic propositions, even though she's just trying to focus on the hobby. It can be offputting.

Men can feel excluded from hobbies as well for reasons as simple as they aren't in the right social circle.

None of that really matters. Live your life and pursue things you want to. Everyone faces unique challenges. Crying that there are barriers is neither here nor there. We're all out here eating a shit sandwich. If you want something then go for it.

If you try and fail I can have some sympathy for you. I don't have any sympathy for people who make excuses to not even try.
