Well, turns out the reason given in the show isn't actually the reason women in the real world want the toilet seat to be closed. The real reason is because when you flush with the lid up, your toilet flings tiny little particles of piss and shit all over the bathroom, and the only way to prevent that is to close the lid first and then flush, which therefore makes closing the toilet seat the man's responsibility. The problem is the argument is never really over whether or not to leave the LID up. It's whether or not to leave the SEAT up. Or down.
