I think the argument the twitter user made isn't completely silly though. It's not just how much fanfiction was made about it, it's the ratio of how many people saw it vs how many people cared enough about it to write fanfiction. Fanfiction authors are usually the some of the most passionate fans of a franchise, the fact that so few of them cared about Avatar particularly when it's a furry fantasy movie is pretty telling.

Fair enough, not completely silly, I'll concede that much.

But the notion that the length and abundance of fan stories about any one thing is the only measure of its impact is.
