I don't know. I didn't see it and had no interest to.

But that doesn't mean that trying to measure something's impact on the world by the length of the fanfiction about it isn't wildly asinine.

How much fanfiction does Shakespeare have written about his works? How numerous are the fan stories about James Cameron's other famous movies, and how long are they? Where's my slash fic about Sherlock Holmes hooking up with Jame Bond?

This was ridiculous from the start.

I think the argument the twitter user made isn't completely silly though. It's not just how much fanfiction was made about it, it's the ratio of how many people saw it vs how many people cared enough about it to write fanfiction. Fanfiction authors are usually the some of the most passionate fans of a franchise, the fact that so few of them cared about Avatar particularly when it's a furry fantasy movie is pretty telling.

Its because for every movie that makes good use of it, there are like 20 that use it for lame gimmicks or just as an excuse to sell tickets for more money.

I never saw Avatar, but I remember Coraline used its 3D very effectively.

ok what about memorable qoutes from the film even if you never see a big block buster those show up every where

or iconic scenes those get homaged and parodied endlessly

even if you have never seen endgame you know the response to "i am inevitable"

if you have never seen star wars you know "ive got a bad feeling about this" and "ITS A TRAP"

you know what a t1000 is even if you have never seen terminator 2

you know what the state puff marshmallow man is if you have never seen ghost busters

ect ect

but avatar dont have any of that

South Park also parodied it when Cartman tried to live amongst the Smurfs.

I can't provide many more examples than that myself, these are just the ones I've personally seen. But you go looking, and I guarantee you'll find more stuff.

Does it really have enough content yet to actually generate a cultural footprint? There's 9+ Star Wars movies, 9 (I believe) Harry Potter movies, 8 seasons of Game of Thrones, like 7 LoTR movies with a show now, 9 billion Marvel movies and shows, other properties like Terminator, Alien, Predator all have had a thousand movies, etc. Not even including published book and comics and shit.

I'm sure if they ever achieve a trilogy or more for this franchise and flesh out the world and new characters, it'll start to have a "cultural imprint".

Went on Friday and saw it in 3d again. Definitely didnt hold up as well as I thought it would. Its not a good movie but is entertaining.

As far as cultural impact the biggest thing I remember was that article coming out about people getting depressed at their shitty lives because they didnt live on Pandora. Which I thought was funny because a huge piece of the movie is about how literally everything on the planet wants to kill you. It would be a terrifying place to be, not to mention the toxic air.
