Because it's become normalized to the point that a lot of people just don't see it as being that crazy by comparison (because that comparison is to similar practices that would have been unacceptable a decade ago)
Because getting mad about it interferes with their ability to mindlessly consume the entertainment they want to mindlessly consume
Because an unhealthy percentage of their identity has been built up around defending the games they like, defense which gets extended to sequels by default and can be really hard to step back from
