havent played ffxiv since like idk, the second batch of eden stuff.
its like my most loved and hated game of all time. played off and on since the OG 1.0 closed beta in like 2010.
hate that combat is now just hyperfocused on output through memorization of GCD hotbar DDR routines, hate that they took away cross classing and stat allotment (however trivial it might have been), hate that they took away my god damn NMs, hate that they took away my mother fucking path companion, hate that they took my fuckin medium house because i quit for three months when my kid was born, hate the fuckin weird ass community
but at the same time its literally the prettiest world in gaming, i could build houses there til the end of time, and fwiw i really enjoy the dungeons and WHM is stupid fun if youre a glare whore

ffxi tho is legit my favorite game of all time
retail sucks dhalmel cock, but 75 cap circa 2006 was the fuckin bomb. it's kinda like playing the souls series, imo. either you really get into how un fucking fair it feels at times, or it just turns you off entirely. personally i loved it. loved the chill ass combat where i had time to bullshit with ppl, or give combat directions in between actions. skill chains and magic bursts are legit the coolest thing to ever grace a cooperative combat system. loved the entire concept and system of subjobs. loved how utterly imbalanced all the jobs were, yet each had its own unique role and purpose. loved camping NMs for days at a fuckin time just to have the chance at a drop. loved the community and the game structure that necessitated friendly and helpful interactions lest your risk being ostracized, which at that point you might as well not play because you couldnt do a god damn thing alone.

but at the same time, the community probably sucks just as bad as ffxiv's does now, and everyone's probably just gonna clique off into dramafest discords and in game chat will be dead as hell.
