I doubt there is a shortage. Manufacturers are gouging people now because the pandemic for the most part isn't causing any delays etc but people know if there is less of something, they can charge more for it.

It's a combination of increased egg demand from the holidays, increased energy and feed costs involved in raising chickens, and most importantly avian flu forcing the culling of 50+ million poultry (which I believe is the worst ever year of it). Of note, the culling predominately effected laying chickens and not meat chickens, hence the cost of poultry not similarly following suit.

But hey, let's go the it's a conspiracy to rip off the consumer route.
