Some professionals will literally use boxed mixes because the notion of "cake" has an actual scientific answer to it, and 100 years of experience making a simple chocolate cake gives you a product that tastes virtually the same as Betty Crocker. If he can get the instructions and follow them, he can make a delicious cake.
