This reminds me vaguely of some play I saw maybe a eight years ago where all the Disney villains were the good guys, and all came up with some clever way to justify. Belle clearly had stockholm sydrome after being held captive by an abusive partner, Aladdin was just a selfish vagabond who had designs to force himself on a princess and yadda yadda but then they got to Cruella who just wanted to make a coat out of puppies, and everyone hated her, because of course, how do you justify it ...
