It stopped them from going through with their original plan to kill off one of the main characters at the end of season 1. As a result, they were able to kill off that person in the epic stretch of episodes that marked the series finale of the show. This. Also the 2007-08 strike saved Friday Night Lights from jumping the shark in season 2.
