This is a good thing, of course, for the writers.

I'm trying to think of any ongoing shows that are on break that I love that may be effected and honestly, not that many. I know a few shows I watched 15 years ago got pretty devastated by the last writer's strike though.

I think the advent of streaming makes this easier. Plenty of other shows to watch in the meantime, and only the companies are really hurt ultimately.

Came in to post this, real impact last time, now I don't really care. Any series delays just gives me more time to work through my eternal tv & anime backlog.

Yeah, this.

From a purely selfish personal disruption angle I don't watch any ongoing TV so this has effectively zero impact on me. I was watching lots of stuff back during the previous strike that was all totally upended, though. Doesn't really feel like modern TV delivery mechanisms (ie streaming releases as opposed to daily/weekly broadcasts) are really in a position to get hurt by this nearly as badly.

Tony Gilroy says they finished the final script for Andor before the strike began. They're still filming for several months though so no on-set re-writes from any of the writing staff until the strike is over. Other than that there are no shows that I really have any concerns for this time. But even if I had some I would still be in favor of the striking workers.

Breaking Bad actually benefited from the writers strike last time around in an odd way. It stopped them from going through with their original plan to kill off one of the main characters at the end of season 1. As a result, they were able to kill off that person in the epic stretch of episodes that marked the series finale of the show.

The only ongoing shows I watch right now are actually comedies, but those are fine because they're all pretty self-contained episodes.

The days of 23 episode season dramas with breaks in between are kind of done with now, thankfully. Now they'll just wait to film the entire shorter season and won't need to stop production in the middle.

i'm not bummed by this at all.

TV has changed from the days of the 23-episode dramas and while it's cut a lot of filler, i'm not a fan of everything being an 8-episode season or a 6-episode miniseries, it just feels like i'm watching an 8-part movie rather than a tv show. not saying there aren't still shows i'm interested in but the appeal is just less to me. i like awkward filler episodes, everything is so polished and perfect nowadays.

This.

Also the 2007-08 strike saved Friday Night Lights from jumping the shark in season 2. The following three seasons afterwards were top quality

Meh, don't watch much scripted TV. Much prefer it when there's a fixed number of episodes as opposed to neverending storylines, because that's more accessible (and I do like a few filler episodes that establish characters and worldbuilding). I can get all that via streaming.

So NBC's method of resolving the strike is only serving to prove why the union is striking in the first place? How corporate can this get?

Interesting that he points out that not even the people working on shows know how good their show is doing on streaming. I know they keep those numbers private for the public but that's crazy that they expect them to negotiate without knowing anything about their performance.

You may have the wrong person based on your description. Also, the writer's strike really isn't what caused that in particular. It did help put off how they'd handle the change more than anything.

Much as I love Dr. Horrible, I'd not want to see Whedon release a new project.

If NPH led the production of a sequel without Whedon's input, then I'd be a happy boy.
