So in the games there's a specific item each has to have to enter the Crowned Sword/Shield form (it's the ones you see on the cover art), the Rusted Sword for Zacian and Rusted Shield for Zamazenta. If they don't have the item they're monotype fairy or fighting respectively; the items add steel to them.
