According to Hegel, immediacy is anything that is presented as is, without any kind of opposition or development. But nothing really stays that way for long.

Gender is or was immediate in that it has been with us as long as history has, but has remained unchanged and unquestioned, only really experienced or controlled. You know those stories about people who see green and blue as one colour? Maybe in the early stages of human history gender wasn't a thing and being able to give birth was considered being able to hunt. There is no record of a people like this to my knowledge except maybe in Plato depending on how you read it.

It just feels like there is so much more that the idea can be, and I think that usually starts with some kind of opposition. In fact failure to do so seems to be by design because now you have two conservative bodies fighting each other.
