Theres this thing called insurance that covers things like this. It makes no sense to go and get a whole other car. This is just terrible advice all the way around.

Literally every car ever made is a time bomb. They will eventually go out.
If tc has insurance then he sure as hell isnt smart enough to use it by filing a claim and waiting on their approval for body work, and is instead getting a quote from the most outrageously expensive body shop known to man, all the while bitching about it online, or he doesnt have underinsured coverage which my condolences to tc if that is the case.
If he wants to dump that much money into his car even knowing its an older bottom of the barrel car then he is more than welcome to. Im just providing an argument against doing so on a 10+ year old car thatll be lucky to make it another 5 and isnt worth it because its dented. Hes better off keeping the dent and having internal beef with his boss if you ask me. Oh, and I never told him to get another car. Stop trying to find loopholes in my posts to make your argument tread water.

If tc was actually smart about his finances and he really doesnt have any other choice besides fixing it oop, instead of keeping up with the Jones by crying over spilled milk, hes better off saving the $3500 for a down payment on a new car when his pos focus inevitably goes out as you put it.
