The point of saying "where are the politics" is to underscore that there is no reason for fact-based science to become political.

Maybe in the sense of "how do we proceed with the knowledge we have from science? Do we focus on X or Y?" sure.

So kevwaffles said "woosh" implying that the actual intent of his (FFD's) post went over your head.

"woosh" is commonly used for such circumstances as it denotes the sound that something might make as it flies by you.
