Just saw this for an update:

Switch worldwide sales top 129.53 million, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom tops 18.51 million

"A total of 3.91 million Switch hardware and 52.2 million software were sold during the three months ended June 30, 2023."

Seven more quarters at this rate (March 31st in 2025) to beat the DS and be in that 155-158-million range I saw for the PS2...those are probably high hopes to keep it selling that steadily. No new movie releases coming soon that I'm aware of either, plus LoZ:TotK already got probably more than half of its sales done unless it comfortably outsells BotW. We'll have to see what they do to push hardware sales going forward...

...but also, now there are two Mario games coming up on the holiday season, and these are the first major Mario game releases since the Mario movie came out -- a new platformer and remaking an old RPG. Princess Peach also gets her own game next year. There's a synergy with the movie there that could help sell hardware. This previous quarter sold 860,000 more units than the quarter before it too, so it's got some upward momentum. Last, while the next Nintendo system is likely to be announced within a year, the Switch will still be on sale for well over seven quarters from now so it doesn't have to keep this increased rate up like I mentioned earlier.

Think we got a race on our hands.
