Yeah it felt weird to me when the show first premiered that they gave Anakin a padawan but I forgive them because Ahsoka ends up being a top-tier character. To be fair, they needed as many Jedi in the war as possible. Additionally, while maybe less so at the time Ahsoka was put under his teachings, Anakin was widely known as the effective Hero of the Republic.
