I would personally say either Amnesia or Five Nights at Freddy's are the most influential horror games of the past decade but yeah Slender's definitely up there too.
You're not wrong! Slender is definitely super influential, but I have mixed feelings on how good of a thing that is. Then again, I don't play a lot of smaller independent horror games, so my opinion on them is pretty nil.

I got the Amnesia games off PS+ at one point and always planned to play them eventually, but never did

I think as far as horror goes, I've always been more into horror shows/books/movies than games. I think sometimes it's hard for me to balance the excitement of the tension/terror with actually playing it as a game, which is also odd seeing as Bioshock is arguably my favorite game of all time. But that was one that was kinda the full package for me; extremely tense and atmospheric, interesting world building while still being scary, and also very fun to play.

There's a few horror games I really dig (Alan Wake, Bloodborne, and some of the Resident Evils come to mind) but a lot of the times they're games that kind of use horror tropes and themes rather than being straight survival horror
