Only posting three right now because there's just six until the next tier.

#115. This Is It
Artist: Nekrogoblikon
Nomination: Murpiroth (5/5)
Time: 4:00 (video is 4:51, but it's an end skit)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAf1j3u8i-M
Initial Rankings: Batch 7 - 12/15 (D) & Rubric 14
Weighted Rankings: Orange 15/16

"All the things she said running through my head" - First listen note

This is its time. I've had enough of it. If I were ranking based off first impressions alone, this easily could've made the top hundred, but it's one of the biggest drops on repeats. The goblin vocals are grating and the chorus is annoying. The final barrage of sound is actually pretty good, but the band gets killed off and that's it. "This is my time! It's not your time, this is my ti-i-i-me!" There are certain immature people with some power who resonate with this chorus, offering nothing but sound and air demanding attention but offering nothing but an attention-sucking demand.

And now for something completely different...

#114. Idioteque
Artist: Radiohead
Nomination: MaxGalactica (5/5)
Time: 5:09
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svwJTnZOaco
Initial Rankings: Batch 6 - 15/15 (D) & Rubric 15
Weighted Rankings: Red 12/16

I don't get it. I don't. I don't get Radiohead, I don't get Karma Police, I don't get Idioteque. I listened to Radiohead's first two albums a few months ago, maybe a week or two before opening up nominations, and there wasn't a song I actively enjoyed. I don't understand Pitchfork and Rolling Stone saying it's one of the best songs of the century so far, I don't relate to the comments section talking about how transformative it was or how it helps calm mental anguish and disorder or how it reminds them (with postivity) for thousands of nights trying to sleep staring up at the ceiling. I just don't.

And while that's okay, I also can't ignore that it makes me feel a bit angry that I'm missing something other people get. But again, different people, different tastes, different flavors. Radiohead has never been my flavor and I don't begrudge anyone for finding them incredible.

I was hoping by now I'd get it, but nothing's changed. It's just a void.

Update: "Paranoid Android," "Karma Police," "Fake Plastic Trees," "Exit Music (For A Film)"... yeah, I just don't get Radiohead. *shrug*

Update Update (2/1): Even though Radiohead's Creep of '93 is good, the Stone Temple Pilots Creep of '92 & TLC's Creep of '94 are better than it, IMHO. I came to comment on a Radiohead song that popped on my Spotify yesterday, but thinking it was on 2007's In Rainbows I couldn't find it. Turns out it was "High and Dry" from The Bends. I expect I'll continue to return to Radiohead updates over the next year because of this nomination, lol.

Meta-Update (2/2): Go back to the beginning of this write-up. "And now for something completely different" was there when I first wrote this up about three weeks ago! I had NO idea people would be guessing the exit of Brian, and it's delivered me a good round of laughs for the coincidence!

#113. 0314
Artist: Koyoi
Nomination: UF8 (5/5)
Time: 2:43
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQqmiz_w3Y0
Initial Rankings: Batch 4 - 15/15 (D) & Rubric 13
Weighted Rankings: Red 10/16

It's been a week, and I've spent more time listening to Radiohead than on these rankings. Part of that is that I listened to more Poppy, Taylor Swift, 5 Seconds of Summer, and podcasts than anything, but the two Radiohead albums had more play the dozen of low-ranking songs I had in this area. And despite putting this and a few songs below "Idioteque" a few days back and trying to give Radiohead some measure of respect, listening to them all fresh again... yeah, I can't put this below it.

You can see I don't have much to say on this entry. It's a somewhat forgettable track. It's decent, but between not understanding the language and it fading out suddenly, I struggle to recall how it sounds as soon as it ends. It does get a bit annoying in the final minute and it doesn't vary its frenetic tempo at all. An okay wall of sound.
