I can't remember as many people gathering at my place as they did in UK at the funeral of the Queen.
I don't think it's so much about pro-royal sentiment, I think it's more about people wanting to feel that they're at the heart of an historical event, that they've got a tiny role as an extra in some grand drama on the world stage. "I was there that day!"

I think our problem (I'm talking as a Brit) is that when a member of Britain's first family on welfare even so much as does a fart, the media treat it as an historical event.
