Yes, time traveling Avengers was actually a genius move, now that I've had time to think about it. a) The whole movie was meant to be an epilogue/conclusion to reward 10 years, 18 movies of MCU fandom. The nostalgia callbacks in Endgame was a perfect way to encapsulate it. b) It allowed for the multiverse to exist.
