What's annoying about their comparison to ride sharing is that with ride sharing during surge pricing events it has the perception of being needed because it's such a busy time and there's only so many drivers. Increase the price to discourage people from riding so that the drivers don't get overwhelmed and the riders don't have too long of a wait. Of course reality is that surge pricing is there because they know they can get away with it and make more profit but again it has that other perception going for it.

For fast food though that's just not the case. The busy hours are already the most profitable hours for fast food places, so the surge pricing there is just pure greed, it doesn't even have a false perception of any kind of bonus for the people paying the higher price.
