It was an extinction event, the types of games that were common in 2 don't really exist now - in fact, the industry really did crash during 2, in part because games were so shit. 4-5 gave us more advanced tools in terms of the scope of polygon use, as well as the mixed blessing of elaborate FMV, but there was no widespread extinction of gen 4 type games.
