Like the shot-reverse here is pretty boring and doesn't add anything to the scene or storytelling. I don't know if it was done because they really didn't have all actors available at once or if they were just going for the easiest possible shoot. That said, it's one scene out of an entire show I'm not about to condemn it or the medium based on a single scene. i'm condemning the entire medium based on this and other examples. also "it's longer form nature does often mean that cinematography can often take a back seat compared to film" - i would argue that the vast majority of television pretends it is not a visual medium and puts next to no effort in visual storytelling or language. instead it just likes to capture actors saying dialogue in medium close up. this defeats the purpose of even capturing it on camera. you could just write a book or play and have it be more effective.
