When you build up something as the ultimate evil for such a long time. What is even left after that? Everything after that just seems trivial or made up bulls*** off the top of their heads.

Smaller stories with more personal stakes.

I watched a great video essay a couple years ago that deconstructed anime tropes (I forget which of the essayists it was, but it was a 20+ minute video, I'm pretty sure) that talked about the problem of anime like Bleach, Naruto, and DBZ. Name-dropped a few others, I think.

It really broke down what kind of story beats you can have after "powerful enough to kill god" arcs and how to bring in new and compelling story lines without using world-ending stakes.

There's more after godkilling. You just have to have a writer who knows how to do it right.
