What is it intended to protect, because I can't imagine it's intent was to protect those who broke into empty homes and just live there with no one knowing they're there 1. The law is there for widowed daughter/sister-in-laws with children who were living with family. 2. The law is there for loyal caretakers in situations where greedy heirs interpret verbal instructions. 3.
