I mean it's kinda hard to give you the benefit of the doubt dude.

You really want to standby that Joseph Stalin was the cloest thing to the good guys at that time period?
I said the Soviets, not Joseph Stalin. And yes, they were. They fought the hardest, and lost the most in doing so. Simple as. It's ultimately more complicated than just that, of course, but it WAS a simple question ("who were the good guys"), and the USA weren't the MVPs at all in the fight against the Axis Powers. That was the Soviets. If you have a different standard of 'the good guys' then you're stepping into murkier waters than I am, but those ("the ones who fought the Axis powers hardest") are the standards I answered by when I said "the closest thing".

The Soviets were so legendary cruel that even modern day dsytopian fiction is still based on them. The complete removal of rights, enormous death counts, torture, rape, starvation, secret police, kidnappings.
That doesn't really have much bearing on who was the good guys during World War II, and seems like more of a distraction than anything. As for the dystopic fiction thing, similarly irrelevant, but also absurd. Supposing if it turns out that more dystopic fiction is actually based on the United States or British Empire or the Kuomintang, is that supposed to turn the tide in my favor?

Really as complex as human beings and governments can be, Stalin, Nazis and North Korea are pretty much as unambigiously bad as anything in modern history.
North Korea? What? They weren't even in World War II.

It's a strange take, you're going to get a confused or hostile reaction from anyone who has studied any 20th century history.
There are plenty of people who'd agree with me, because they studied 20th century history, they just tend to not be Americans. And I don't really think there's any confusion in the replies, just hostility.
