9. Gen IV (Chingling is godawful; the Bronzong line is fucking annoying; Mime Jr. is cute, but too little too late; Gallade is awesome; the Lake trio range from okay Azelf to terrible Uxie and Mesprit. This is a terrible selection, and Gallade is the ONLY good thing about it.)

8. Gen V (Victini is cute and fun; the Musharna line is cute, if weak; Woobat is cute, Swoobat is not; Darmanitan Zen is hard for me to really count here; Sigilpyh is hard for me to spell consistently; the Gothitelle line is a desparate attempt to create a knock-off Gardevoir, and it fails; the Reuniclus line is weird and fun; the Beheeyem line is completely pointless; Meloetta is just one more in a sea of too many legendaries. Nothing in this gen gets QUITE as bad as the worst from Gen IV, but it's so much monotype and Psychic/Flying filler, and nothing stands out.)

7. Gen VII (A-Raichu is superior to the original in my opinion; Oricorio P'au is the worst of the four breeds; Oranguru sucks; Bruxish is a bad design, but solid in use; Tapu Lele is my least favorite Tapu; Cosmog is cute, Cosmoem is pointless, and Solgaleo/Lunala are the coolest cover legendaries in year (possibly ever); Necrozma feels a bit takced on as a big bad. It largely comes down to A-Raichu and the cover legendaries not being enough to make up for the mediocrity of the other new Pokemon in this generation.)

6. Gen VIII (G-Rapidash line is fine, but it can't compare to the originals; G-Slowpoke/Slowking are inferior, G-Slowbro is VASTLY superior; Mr. Rime line is interesting, but kinda hard to compare to the original Mr. Mime; G-Articuno may not be as good as the original, but it's still really solid; H-Braviary is...different, but feels weirdly unnecessary as a new regional form; Orbeetle is kinda lame, but Dottler is cute; The Hatterene line is like a better version of the Gothitelle line, while still being worse than the Gardevoir line; Indeedee is dumb and pointless; Calyrex is kinda stupid looking for a DLC final legendary; Wyrdeer is a vast improvement on Stantler. There's some solid stuff here, but nothing really AMAZING, and a lot of the field is made up of regional forms, so that's a bit of a dockage of points.)

5. Gen III (I like Gardevoir, but the NFEs are only okay; I like Medicham, but Meditite sucks; the Grumpig line is adorable across the board; Lunatone looks cool, Solrock looks janky; Baltoy/Claydol feel...superfluous; Chimecho IS superfluous; Wynaut is a pointless Baby in a generation that largely avoided them; the Metagross line is solid, but Beldum is lame; Lati@s are cool legendary dragons; Jirachi and Deoxys lack the mystique of Mew/Celebi. Gen III is solid, but it's here that the NFEs really start to drag things down compared to Gen I/II.)

4. Gen I (The Alakazam line is iconic; I'm not a huge fan of the Slowbro line; I dislike the Hypno line; Exeggcute is good, but Exeggutor is a little worse; Starmie is cool, but Staryu is better; Mr. Mime and Jynx are interesting in their Gen I status; Mewtwo is the original big bad, and Mew is the original mystical. Solid overall, but again, Gen I has won so much, so I've gotta see if something else does it better.)

3. Gen IX (Armarouge is cool albeit less so than Ceruledge; Rabsca is a better Bug/Psychic than Orbeetle; the Espathra line feels...pointless I guess; Veluza is annoying in the wild; Farigaraf is a solid evolution and much-needed; Scream Tail is goofy, but better than Wigglytuff at least; the Iron Musketeers are all pretty solid, because they're largely just the Musketeers are robots; and Munkidori is...my least favorite of the loyal trio. There are some good things here, and it's largely solid overall, but just not quite good enough.)

2. Gen VI (The Megas are all largely solid except for Slowbro, but there are just SO MANY of them that it kinda oversaturates the field; Delphox is awesome for the first full-time Fire/Psychic; Meowstic is a delightful design, and Espurr's meme face is amazing; the Malamar line is quirky in a fun way; and Hoopa is solid. Really, I just wish they didn't overload on the megas here, because it could've been solid.)

1. Gen II (The Xatu line is unique and cool-looking; Espeon is the best ever; Slowking is the best of its line; Unown/Wobbuffet are a fun gimmick duo; Girafarig is okay, but it gets improved with evolution; Smoochum is somehow one of the better Baby Pokemon; Lugia is badass and the superior cover legendary; Celebi is a cute mystical. I think Gen II stands up well ENOUGH to warrant throwing it a vote, since it hasn't even placed top two yet outside of Dark-type.)
