I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

Going into this contest, I figured "Oh yeah, Gen I Fire is the most obvious winner possible." But then I saw the overwhelming line-up for Gen I Poison, and I'm not surprised by the overall drubbing on-display here. Granted, low votals compared to other rounds, but still, breaking the 50% mark is a big deal. Also, huge credit to Gen VIII securing another second place finish, and even though it got doubled by Gen I Poison, it put on a strong showing to keep itself in contention here.

For today's contest, Psychic gets its chance to shine, having started out its life as an OP monster given how broken Gen I was...to a rather quiet and unassuming spot on the type chart as of recent generations. Given Gen VI's limited roster, I have folder Mega Evolutions into their list, as those were, effectively, some of the new Pokemon created in lieu of brand new designs for Gen VI. I'll keep the same concept for later typings as well. Note: I will not be considering things like Dialga/Palkia's form changes in Gen VIII, as those are still technically the same in the way Giratina's form change was back in Gen IV.

9. Gen IV (Chingling is godawful; the Bronzong line is fucking annoying; Mime Jr. is cute, but too little too late; Gallade is awesome; the Lake trio range from okay Azelf to terrible Uxie and Mesprit. This is a terrible selection, and Gallade is the ONLY good thing about it.)

8. Gen V (Victini is cute and fun; the Musharna line is cute, if weak; Woobat is cute, Swoobat is not; Darmanitan Zen is hard for me to really count here; Sigilpyh is hard for me to spell consistently; the Gothitelle line is a desparate attempt to create a knock-off Gardevoir, and it fails; the Reuniclus line is weird and fun; the Beheeyem line is completely pointless; Meloetta is just one more in a sea of too many legendaries. Nothing in this gen gets QUITE as bad as the worst from Gen IV, but it's so much monotype and Psychic/Flying filler, and nothing stands out.)

7. Gen VII (A-Raichu is superior to the original in my opinion; Oricorio P'au is the worst of the four breeds; Oranguru sucks; Bruxish is a bad design, but solid in use; Tapu Lele is my least favorite Tapu; Cosmog is cute, Cosmoem is pointless, and Solgaleo/Lunala are the coolest cover legendaries in year (possibly ever); Necrozma feels a bit takced on as a big bad. It largely comes down to A-Raichu and the cover legendaries not being enough to make up for the mediocrity of the other new Pokemon in this generation.)

6. Gen VIII (G-Rapidash line is fine, but it can't compare to the originals; G-Slowpoke/Slowking are inferior, G-Slowbro is VASTLY superior; Mr. Rime line is interesting, but kinda hard to compare to the original Mr. Mime; G-Articuno may not be as good as the original, but it's still really solid; H-Braviary is...different, but feels weirdly unnecessary as a new regional form; Orbeetle is kinda lame, but Dottler is cute; The Hatterene line is like a better version of the Gothitelle line, while still being worse than the Gardevoir line; Indeedee is dumb and pointless; Calyrex is kinda stupid looking for a DLC final legendary; Wyrdeer is a vast improvement on Stantler. There's some solid stuff here, but nothing really AMAZING, and a lot of the field is made up of regional forms, so that's a bit of a dockage of points.)

5. Gen III (I like Gardevoir, but the NFEs are only okay; I like Medicham, but Meditite sucks; the Grumpig line is adorable across the board; Lunatone looks cool, Solrock looks janky; Baltoy/Claydol feel...superfluous; Chimecho IS superfluous; Wynaut is a pointless Baby in a generation that largely avoided them; the Metagross line is solid, but Beldum is lame; Lati@s are cool legendary dragons; Jirachi and Deoxys lack the mystique of Mew/Celebi. Gen III is solid, but it's here that the NFEs really start to drag things down compared to Gen I/II.)

4. Gen I (The Alakazam line is iconic; I'm not a huge fan of the Slowbro line; I dislike the Hypno line; Exeggcute is good, but Exeggutor is a little worse; Starmie is cool, but Staryu is better; Mr. Mime and Jynx are interesting in their Gen I status; Mewtwo is the original big bad, and Mew is the original mystical. Solid overall, but again, Gen I has won so much, so I've gotta see if something else does it better.)

3. Gen IX (Armarouge is cool albeit less so than Ceruledge; Rabsca is a better Bug/Psychic than Orbeetle; the Espathra line feels...pointless I guess; Veluza is annoying in the wild; Farigaraf is a solid evolution and much-needed; Scream Tail is goofy, but better than Wigglytuff at least; the Iron Musketeers are all pretty solid, because they're largely just the Musketeers are robots; and Munkidori is...my least favorite of the loyal trio. There are some good things here, and it's largely solid overall, but just not quite good enough.)

2. Gen VI (The Megas are all largely solid except for Slowbro, but there are just SO MANY of them that it kinda oversaturates the field; Delphox is awesome for the first full-time Fire/Psychic; Meowstic is a delightful design, and Espurr's meme face is amazing; the Malamar line is quirky in a fun way; and Hoopa is solid. Really, I just wish they didn't overload on the megas here, because it could've been solid.)

1. Gen II (The Xatu line is unique and cool-looking; Espeon is the best ever; Slowking is the best of its line; Unown/Wobbuffet are a fun gimmick duo; Girafarig is okay, but it gets improved with evolution; Smoochum is somehow one of the better Baby Pokemon; Lugia is badass and the superior cover legendary; Celebi is a cute mystical. I think Gen II stands up well ENOUGH to warrant throwing it a vote, since it hasn't even placed top two yet outside of Dark-type.)

Voted 3.

Gardevoir, Metagross, Medicham, Lati@s, and Jirachi are awesome. Deoxys is good. Lunatone and Solrock would be awesome if they had +30 in stats. Grumpig and Chimecho are okay but could do with better movesets. The NFEs I like enough.

This is another one where Gen 6 cheats by "adopting" a bunch of popular psychic types. But unlike with dragon and fire, I have to pushback harder on a lot of these megas being a downgrade.

I'm leaning towards Gen 3 since it has the highest concentration of good stuff, and the bad stuff isn't that bad.

I guess V? It's hard to find one that really stands out. Looking through these lists, I think I just discovered Psychic is probably one of my least favorite types.

I has Starmie as the big highlight, and then a bunch that are just okay to good.

II I guess has Slowking.

III has Metagross, and Latios is nice too. Spoink line is decent.

IV has Gallade and Azelf, but they're still kinda low as far as highs go.

V has the Woobat line, Reuniclus, and Sigilyph, which I think is enough to put it on top.

VI has Espurr line, plus Mega Metagross is pretty cool. Other Psychic Megas are bad or just kind of a side-grade.

VII is live IV where the highs aren't particularly high, but A-Raichu and S/M box legends are decent (not Necrozma)

VIII is probably fighting with I for second place, with Wydreer and the G-Slows doing the work.

IX is just Rabsca and I guess Iron Boulder.

V > I > VIII > uhh III > VII > IV > VI > IX > II, just all over the place.

Gen 3 for sure.

Gardevoir, Metagross, Latios, Latias, and Jirachi really carry this generation.

finally i'm voting with the majority for once

metagross is the GOAT!

i always feel like i rank psychic pretty high as far as types go, and im positive that gen 3 is hard carrying it for me. chimecho and medicham are the only fully evolved ones im kinda meh on, but the latter has a cool type combination and the former has a decent design.

none of these generations miss besides maybe gens 9 and 7 and even then only partially. gave a complimentary vote to 4 since i deeply value all of them unlike others here (am a noted bell mon appreciator, love chingling and mime jr immensely, think gallade is very cool and one of the most underappreciated mons, consider the lake beings as... admittedly a little middle of the road design-wise but given the generation's lore they're tied to, actually incredibly cool with arguably still the best battle theme for any legendary group (thanks PLA)), and cresselia is truly a behemoth worthy of being a rival to one of the other best mons ever made) but i have absolutely no beef with the winning gen here by any means

Generally these aren't terrific selections imo, a lot of stuff there I really don't care for a lot. Gen V has Darmanitan, Victini and Sigilyph though so it's that, even if it's inferior Zen Darmanitan.

3 is also good. Struggling to judge 6 because of all the Megas.

Gen VII - I don't like anything here. Maaaaybe Cosmog

Gen IV - Chingling is cute but nothing else does anything for me

Gen VIII - Relies too much on variants of older Pokemon, but Orbeetle is pretty good. Calyrex, Indeedee, and Mr. Rime are awful and drag it down a lot.

Gen VI - Also relies too much on older Pokemon, and I don't even like most of the Megas. Meowstic is pretty good though, but Hoopa sucks.

Gen IX - I like Armarouge and Veluza a lot, and Scream Tail is pretty solid, but the rest is kind of whatever

Gen III - Spoink is amazing but Grumpig is a disgrace. I like Metagross, Gardevoir, and the celestial rocks but the Meditite line and Deoxys drag it down.

Gen I - Slowbro is top tier, Starmie is solid, and the Alakazam and Exeggutor lines are alright, but don't care much for the Hypno line and actively dislike Mr. Mime and Jynx. Mewtwo is good but not a fan of Mew.

Gen II - Xatu, Espseon, Slowking, and Wobbufett yes please. Smoochum no thanks. Lugia is pretty good for a legendary too.

Gen V - Reuniclus is my favorite Psychic type, and Sigilyph is top 5. I also kind of like Victini even though I hate Mythicals out of principle. Really this is a Reuniclus and Sigilyph carry job though.
