I would assume if you do it soon after it starts it wouldn't be much different from glancing past the sun normally. (In either circumstance, you definitely shouldn't focus on the sun at all.)

If you've been in a darkened environment for a while though, your eyes will have dilated, potentially making the exposure more dangerous because they're taking in more light. It can also help fool people into thinking it's safer to look at because the brightness of the sun won't seem as apparent, even though it still is.
