Removing legacy and popularity from reasons why a monument is important is a strange choice. Especially since a monument is generally created by the people to commemorate something important.
Legacy and popularity are important, but so is the monument and what it is itself! You can say the "etymology" doesn't matter anymore, it just is what it is now, but I'm never going to be able to respect something that's, essentially, popular because it's popular as much as I would otherwise.
