The world believes Xavier is dead but they were very particular to note that he was taken off-planet by the Shi'ar to be healed. Still that episode very much treated the whole affair as if he was dying for realsies. Honestly I suggest watching like a half-hour recap of the series on YT. You'll get the salient points.
